Ascent to Aneto Peak (3,404m)

The highest peak in the Pyrenees, Aneto, is a challenging but rewarding mountaineering objective. Typically tackled in summer or early autumn, it requires glacier travel experience (crampons and ice axe essential) and a good level of fitness. Guided expeditions are highly recommended and can be booked through local mountain guides. The most common starting point is from the Refugio de la Renclusa (accessible via a short bus ride and hike from Benasque), often involving an overnight stay. Expect a full day of demanding climbing (10-14 hours round trip from the refuge).
