Walser Ecomuseum 'Z' Timmerhuus'
Located in the nearby hamlet of Mascognaz (reachable by a scenic walk or specific transport), the Walser Ecomuseum offers a fascinating insight into the history, culture, and daily life of the Walser people, an ancient Germanic community that settled in the Val d'Ayas centuries ago. The museum is housed in a traditional wooden chalet and displays tools, artifacts, clothing, and historical documents. It provides an excellent cultural counterpoint to the natural attractions. Opening hours are seasonal, typically Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00-12:00 and 15:00-18:00 in summer and winter high season. Entry fee is usually around €5-€7.
