Valmalenco, like the rest of Valtellina, is famous for its hearty mountain cuisine. 'Pizzoccheri' are thick buckwheat pasta ribbons served with potatoes, savoy cabbage, butter, garlic, and local cheese (Casera or Bitto). 'Sciatt' are small, crispy buckwheat fritters filled with melting Casera cheese. Numerous trattorias and restaurants in Chiesa offer these and other regional specialties, often using locally sourced ingredients. Ristorante del Centro and Lanterna Verde are often recommended for authentic local dishes, with main courses typically costing €15-€25.
